About Lolo *

We are named after Dolores Herrera del Olmo. But everyone called her Lolo.

Born January 12th, 1901, Lolo grew up in San Ángel, a quiet town on the outskirts of Mexico City, the 3rd youngest of 10 siblings. When the Mexican Revolution swept through, the Zapatista Army drove her family from their hacienda. They fled on horseback into the city with nothing but each other.

For 103 years, Lolo met every hardship with a smile and a fighting spirit. Though she had no formal education, she was full of innate wisdom and always had a “dicho” for any situation that life could throw at her.

She also cooked like a dream. Every Saturday, she would fill her house with family and friends for an all-day feast. She was an Abuelita, a partner in crime, a confidant, and an inspiration. You’ll see many parts of her in our restaurant, from her sayings, to her antique bird cages, to photos of the woman herself.

Bold and resilient, yet warm and welcoming, Lolo was a vivid embodiment of the spirit of Mexico itself.

Raise a glass the way she taught us:

"Por los presentes y los ausentes."

"For the ones that are present and the ones that are absent."

That's the spirit we pour into every plate, every drink, every table at Lolo's. Come feel it for yourself.
